Day 3~ Murdock School, Willows Community Center, 700 Elementary School Students ~ 90 Adults, 243 miles

Day 1 - Seal Beach NWR to Sacramento NWR

 

Today's run was 8 miles to Willows, CA where we put on skits about wildlife for 700+ children then onward 243 miles to Chiloquin, Oregon via Redding, CA and Mt.Shasta

We caravaned from Sacramento NWR to Murdock Elementary School in to the lovely Sacramento Valley city of Willows. Interpretive Specialist Marilyn Gammette had made arrangements for the Caravan to put on 7 outdoor skits for the students.  

Day 2 - Sacramento Refuge Complex Circumnavigation
Day 3 - Murdock School then on to Klamath, Oregon
Day 4 - Klamath to McNary NWR Washington via Umatilla NWR
Day 5 - Columbia High School, McNary NWR then on to The Dalles

 

The Blue Goose and Smokey the Bear were popular with the kids.

Day 6- Portland Convention Center, Tualatin NWR
Day 7 - Nisqually NWR to Ridgefield NWR
Day 8 - Ridgefield NWR and Ridgefield Heritage Days
Day 9 - Ridgefield NWR to Grand Junction via Ankeny NWR

After the skits came Q&A, Smokey and Blue Goose answered lots of questions with the help of Rudy Vietmeier, Mike Mitchell and John Bradley

Day 10 - Grand Junction to Humboldt NWR via Redwood Coast
Day 11 - Humboldt NWR Presentation and Docent Tour
Day 12 - Humboldt NWR to Don Edwards NWR
Day 13 - Alameda NWR and Lum Elementary School

Everybody needs to take a rest-stop once in a while....

 

and some stops had great scenery, like this view of Mount Shasta! But look at the snow blowing off the peak,will we need the tire chains tomorrow?
