Route of the Day - Guadalupe NWR to Seal Beach NWR via Bitter Creek NWR sea-level to 4500 ft and back to sea-level
The last days run illustrated the great diversity of habitats under
care of the US Fish & Wildlife Refuge System. From Coastal Marshes and Dunes to rocky canyons and mountains
with majestic vistas. The view north, up the Temblor Range, dining room of the Endangered
California Condor.
A view down the San Andreas Fault, the rock cliffs are excellent
perches for Endangered California Condors
Le Bateau du Audubon at 4700 feet, yes, that is snow in the background!
We had all brought tire-chains, and a floor-jack and set of auto tools but we did not need them! On the Centennial Caravan Route, 10 volunteers traveled
3300 miles in 7 vehicles to 11 refuges as well as 4 school visits and 17 public presentations in 16 days... and
that was just Phase One!
